Transfiguration Sunday

by Sharon Cheverie

Pictou- Beautiful Mountain Images and Music were playing as we gathered for Transfiguration Sunday, Last Sunday in the Season of Epiphany. Greeting the congregation were Carolyn Moore and Linda Tucker, steward was Ian Macdonald.

The Ministry and Personnel Committee asked that the congregation take some time to reflect and respond to a questionnaire they handed out. As they seek guidance and direction in helping Pictou United flourish.

Call to worship was by Diane Vaughn. Reverend Mary-Beth Moriarty’s time with the children included a slide show of various mountains in the world and of their importance to some. How people climb mountains to feel close to or talk to god, as god is the creator of everything. The children were told of another way to feel close to god without going up a mountain was to just pray. The children closed their eyes for a prayer.

Hebrew Scripture Moses’ Holy Encounter and Gospel Lesson the Transfiguration were both read by Donna Weaver.

Reflections- Our Own” Encounters of the Holy Kind” by Reverend Moriarity showed more mountain slides and spoke of this being where heaven and earth meet. That to climb a mountain is a challenge, to move a mountain is impossible. And that there are many ways God meets us if we are open. She spoke of our own mountain top experiences when we then see life differently or experienced a deep change and how we have to move down the mountain to regain the breath of life As we move into the season of Lent a tome to listen, time for transformation.

Next Sunday marks the beginning of Lent our worship will be Intergenerational as we ponder the meaning and prepare ourselves for the journey ahead.

A reminder to committees that annual reports are due.

Our Annual Valentine Chocolate Event takes place Sat Feb 9th 6:00-8:00 in the church hall, all are welcome
