Easter at Pictou United

by Angie Burrell

PICTOU UNITED - Good Friday Worship was followed by the “Walk with the Cross” with the Pictou Town Ministerial and in the afternoon worship was at the Shiretown Nursing Home.

Easter Sunday began with a Pictou Town Ecumenical Sunrise Service followed by worship at 10:30 a.m. Committees festively decorated Pictou United for Easter Worship. Greeting the congregation were Frank and Iva McLean and Steward was Bill MacLellan. Lay leader was Janna Fraser and thanks was extended to David Burrell for the pre-service video presentation.

Service began with affirming our faith and the Ministry of Music was “Crown Him with Many Crowns”. The Easter Acclamation followed the lighting of the Christ Candle. While the singing of “Jesus Christ is Risen Today”, Alleluias, attached to balloons, were released by the Sunday School and Rev. Moriarity, with joyous shouts of “Alleluia” from the congregation.

Following the Welcome & Announcements, the Gathering Prayer was read in unison. The Gospel Lesson, from John, was “I Have Seen the Lord” followed by the Easter Affirmation.

As we celebrated the good news of Easter the Hymn “In the Bulb There is a Flower” was sung and the Sunday School distributed spring bulbs to the congregation.

The Dedication of Offering & Easter Flowers was followed by “Invitation to the Table” at which time the congregation greeted one another then sang the hymn “Now the Green Blade Rises”.

The Communion Prayer was read followed by Communion served to the congregation by elders during which “The Word of Life” was sung.

The congregation left the church to “Lord of the Dance” and were given a chocolate treat by Rev. Moriarty.

Holy Humour Worship will be March 30th at 10:30 a.m.
