United for Peace
by Angie Burrell
PICTOU - A moving, thought provoking, intergenerational worship was held March 2nd, 2008 at Pictou United Church. The theme was “United for Peace”.
Greeters were Ken & Doris MacMillan. Steward was Bill MacLellan.
Images and music of peace greeted the congregation as everyone gathered for worship. Songs of the 60’s and 70’s accompanied the images and seemed to be more relevant now than ever. The congregation joined the choir in singing the beautiful hymn “Morning Has Broken”.
John Spyder Macdonald offered our Ministry of Music with the songs “Imagine” and “Fly Little White Dove Fly” with the congregation joining in on the choruses.
A story was shared by way of video presentation as to the origin of the “United for Peace Pins” and Donna Weaver read the true story of “Sadako” with the congregation, of all ages, gathering with her and Rev. Moriarity at the front of the church to hear the story.
The choir sang a beautiful version of “Dona novis pacem – Give us peace”. The Peace Commitment Prayer-Lord’s Prayer was preceded and followed by a verse of Kum Ba Yah.
Thank you to the members of the United for Peace Working Group for their organization of and preparation of the morning's worship.
Following worship, the congregation gathered for coffee hosted by the Worship Committee and the congregation was able to check out the new lighting system in the church hall.
