"EARTH DAY" - Think about it !!

Submitted by Sharon Cheverie

PICTOU - “Second Cup Sunday” was held prior to our regular morning service.

Marking Earth Day was Sunday’s theme.

Greeting the congregation were Mary-Lou MacDonald and Sharon Dewar, steward was Bill Dodson.

Lighting the Christ Candle and Call to Worship was by Isaac Young.

Rev. Mary –Beth Moriarity emptied a garbage bag and showed the children what she picked up while on a 5 minute walk around the church block. She explained how God gave us a beautiful place to live and we don’t do a very good job looking after it. We need more than one day for earth day, that everyday we should be thinking of ways to make our earth a cleaner, better place to live. Congregation sang with the children Like a Rock.

Hebrew Scripture Litany- God Makes a World was read by Seth Burrill and Jordan MacIsaac. Gospel Lesson John 14:15-21 was read by Rev. Moriarity.

Reflections “Called into Partnership” Rev Moriarity spoke of the partnership we have with God. That we have the knowledge, we know what we need to do to care for the earth. God depends on us individually and as a community to care for his creation. And she asked the question, why should we care about our carbon footprint?
