"STONE ON STONE"

by Sharon Cheverie

Pictou - We gathered on Sunday, April 20th for the 5th Sunday in the Season of Easter.

Greeters were Judy Cormier and Sharon Cheverie, steward was Ian Macdonald.

Lighting The Christ Candle and Call to Worship was by Chloe Marshall.

Rev. Mary-Beth Moriarity’s time with the children discussed their resemblance and their qualities; she asked who do you look like? What qualities of God live within us as God's image shines within us and God works in us?

New Testament Lesson - Stoning Stephen, was read by Art Macdonald. Gospel Lesson John 14:1-14 was read by Rev. Mary-Beth Moriarity.

Reflections “stone on stone”, as the sound of two stones hitting together were heard, we listened to the words - throwing, hitting, breaking, destroying, accusations, anger, hatred, fear. Rev. Moriarity referred to the story of Stephen being stoned and how people watched and did or said nothing. And how, 2000 years later, stones are still being thrown, stones of fear, walls of division. Our world is not how God intended. We are living stones - people of God by our faithfulness and actions. We should not be afraid to speak, stand up, to reach out or to break down walls, stone by stone by stone by stone by stone.

Ministry of Music - the congregation enjoyed “Prayer of the Norwegian Child” as sung by the beautiful voice of Kenzie MacDonald.
