“Look Around – Not up”
by Angie Burrell
PICTOU UNITED – May 4th, 2008, Ascension Sunday. Greeting the congregation were Carolyn Moore and Ruth MacKay. Steward was Brian Burris. Lay Leaders were Jessica Cyr and Carolyn Moore.
Service began with Diane Vaughan reading a letter received from Bishop Maida of the Diocese of Bhopal describing attacks on Christian Churches and that being a Christian is very risky. Bishop Maida was requesting help with the building of a boundary wall around the church for protection and a Tube Well in church campus to provide drinking water to people who come to worship. A donation will be made from the Benevolent Fund to help with this.
Leading us in worship today was Michael Simmons.
A Moment for All was based on Love, Joy and Respect and the Sunday School was encouraged to sing loud enough for Rev. Moriarity to hear them in Toronto.
The hymn “You Raise Me Up” was played prior to Meditation, which told us to “Look Around – Not up” and that we are blessed with the things in our lives and should use the gifts that God has given us to help others.
Ministry of Music offered by the choir was “Peace Like a River, Kum Ba Yah”.
