This week’s bulletin was dedicated in loving memory of Stan McLaren, by the family.
Margaret Anne Dodson and Ruth Mackay presented a conversational exchange about university life, being away from home and the help and information that is available.
Lighting the Christ Candle and Call to Worship was done by Emelyne Marshall.
Brad MacCallum, chair of church council, congratulated the graduating students and handed out certificates. Harris MacKenzie, on behalf of the finance & stewardship committee, presented the 2008 Jean Dickson and Dodson Family Bursaries.
Hebrew Scripture Genesis 21: 8-21 and Responsive Psalm 100 were read by Jocelyn Marshall. Mike Simmons read the Gospel Lesson, Matthew 10: 24-39.
In the Meditation, Mr. Simmons spoke to graduates, as we honor them today about accepting the journey that lies before them, as you do not know what tomorrow holds; and that when things get hectic, and they will, to ask God for wisdom to go forward. That God will reveal each step of your journey to you personally, only you can go forward.
Ministry of music “Ave Verum Corpus” and “You Raise Me Up” was offered by Carolyn Fellows.

“Build me a Ship”
by Sharon Cheverie
Pictou - Greeters were Jim, Brenda, Allyson and Amelia Parker; steward was Murray McLaren.
Sandy Mackay spoke to the congregation at the beginning of the service about the massive relief efforts under way for Myanmar and China. Until June 6th, amounts donated will be matched by the federal government.
Lighting of the Christ Candle and Call to Worship was given by Jenna Johnson.
Time with the children - Mike Simmons spoke of Noah and his ark. He showed them a model boat and different model animals. He then had them make different animal sounds. He said one of the animals was missing because he did not listen, “when you don’t listen you get lost”. The children joined in a prayer before going on to Sunday school.
Hebrew Lesson Genesis 6:9-22 and Responsive Psalm 46 were read by Carolyn Moore; Gospel Lesson Mathew 7:21-29 was read by Mike Simmons.
In the Meditation, “Build me a Ship”, Mr. Simmons spoke of the beautiful earth God created, but as things were going wrong he decided to destroy it with a flood. He spoke of how Noah was selected and how obedience, respect and love were instilled as he was being prepared for each step of his lifetime.
To believe in the word of God and to follow His word is the foundation and we are the keys to making the world a better place. God’s gifts to us are no good unless we give them away or pass them on. God asked one thing of us, respect each other in kind.
We gratefully acknowledge memorial gifts given
