Pictou United celebrates 44 years of worship with Memorial Hymn Sing
By Sharon Cheverie
Pictou - Sunday’s service was an Anniversary Celebration of 44 years of worship at Pictou United and a Memorial Hymn Sing.
Greeters were Doris Young and Eva MacLean, Steward was Murray MacLaren.
As we gathered to remember and celebrate those who have touched our lives, the congregation was welcomed to this special service by Mike Simmons.
Memorials and Dedications were read by Diane Vaughn and J. Arthur MacDonald as hymns were sung by the choir or choir and congregation.
Hebrew Scripture Exodus 15:1-3 and Responsive Psalm 98 were read by Donna Weaver. Gospel Lesson Luke 7 31-35 was read by Mike Simmons.
In meditation,“Music for God”, Mr. Simmons spoke of how singing moves our hearts, gives us memories and joy. He encouraged the congregation to take the time to listen to the music God gives us each day in the wind, rain, birds and water.
An Anniversary Gift was presented by Gwen MacDonald from the United Church Women.
A thank-you was extended to all who made this service a success with their presence and contributions.
Celebrations continued in the church hall following service with cake and refreshments.
