United Church Women led morning service
by Sharon Cheverie
Pictou- Greeters last Sunday were Wanda Smith and Millie Hoffe, steward was Bill Dodson.
Rev Mary-Beth Moriarity was away at the fall 2008 meeting of General Council Executive, so morning service was under the direction of United Church Women led by Gwen MacDonald who gave report on the Christmas Tea and Sale and Sentimental Journey.
Mission Moment given by Margaret Anne Dodson included the dedication of a Mission Service Shawl.
Lighting the Christ Candle and reading the Gathering Litany was Elsie MacDonald. Litany of Confession was read by Alison Yoshioka.
Time with the children was shared by Ruth MacKay; she spoke of a penny and its value years ago when you could go to the store and purchase penny candy compared to what a penny can buy today. She had the children gather pennies from the congregation to see how many they could collect. They would add them up and decided what they would purchase with them.
Epistle Reading 1 Thessalonians: 1-10 was read by Bonnie McTague and the Gospel Reading John 6:1-14 was read by Doris Young.
Reflections given by Margaret Anne Dodson shared the story of her recent trip to China and her visit with our partners in the Amity Foundation.
June Cameron led the We Are Sent Forth Blessing.

ONE CAN! TWO CAN! MANY CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!
HELP TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE
THIS ADVENT-CHRISTMAS SEASON
WITH OUR -
“OH CANSTRUCTION CHRISTMAS TREE!”
This Christmas, Pictou United Church will have a Christmas tree with a difference and that will make a difference!
Not only will it grace our sanctuary as a time-honored symbol of the yuletide season, but with your help it will ultimately become a significant contribution to the Pictou West Food Bank.
Through the Advent-Christmas Season we will be creating our Christmas Tree out of CANS! Yes that is right! Cans of juice, fruit, soup, sauce, meat, tuna etc… will be used to CAN-struct our tree and then once completed, all will be donated to our local food bank.
The Pastoral Care & Outreach Committee and the Christian Development Committee is inviting ALL of us to join in the fun... as a family, as a Committee, as a Sunday School class, or as an individual. Help us CAN-struct a Christmas Tree that will feed the body as well as the soul.
As you can see by the listing below we do need lots of help. So we are inviting you to begin to bring your can donations to the Church ASAP. Please place them at the right front of the sanctuary where our Christmas tree usually is. The CAN-struction of the Christmas tree will begin on November 30th; the first Sunday of Advent.
The various sizes of cans are listed in order from those we will need first,to those we will need last.
TOGETHER WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!
