BURRIS (Goode), Audrey Frances


BURRIS (Goode), Audrey Frances - 81, Balfron, Colchester Co., passed away Sunday, January 20, 2008, in Lillian Fraser Memorial Hospital, Tatamagouche.

Born in Green Oaks, she was a daughter of the late Henry and Alice (Gilby) Goode. Audrey taught school in Princeport, Birch Hill, Denmark and Balfron before retiring to raise her family.

A loving mother and loyal friend, she was very involved in Trinity United Church, The Falls and the Phyllis Decker Ladies Aid. She was also active in many community projects, collected for several charities, and loved to help at community suppers.

For many years, she and her husband, Lennie, were foster parents to several young children who benefited greatly from their care, love and guidance. Audrey took great pride in her children, and later, her grandsons, supporting their education and following their careers with keen interest. Always positive, always generous, no wonder she was loved by all.

Audrey suffered through several illnesses and the loss of four of her five children, but through it all, with the loving support of her husband, family and close friends, and with the courage and determination few could imagine, she carried on, maintaining her faith in God and love of life.

She was predeceased by her sister, Rita Curtis; children, Laurie and Laura (twins); Heather and Arlene; granddaughter, Eve.

She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Lennie; son, Brian (Jane), Pictou; grandsons, Christopher (UNB), Cory (St. F.X.), Mark and Adrian, Tatamagouche; great-granddaughter, Alana Burris, Tatamagouche; several nieces and cousins.

Following her request, cremation has taken place.

Visitation will be held 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday, January 25, in Coulter's Funeral Home (657-3288), 48 Riverside Dr., Tatamagouche, NS B0K 1V0.

A funeral service in her honour will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, January 26, in Sharon United Church, Tatamagouche, Rev. Sandra Carruthers officiating. Interment will take place in The Falls Cemetery.

BATTIST (Maltby), Marion Mae

BATTIST (Maltby), Marion Mae - 63, Strathcona Place, Pictou, formerly of Harris Road, passed away peacefully January 15, 2008, in Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow, surrounded by her loving family.

Born in Toronto, Marion was a daughter of the late Richard and Edith (Metlin) Maltby.

She grew up and lived in Pictou, all her life. Marion devoted her time to her family, being a nanny to grandchildren, Logan, Sydney and Hershey, and paid special attention to all her close friends.

She was a woman of special spirit, strength, and above all, class. She loved skating, cross country skiing, and listening to Hank Williams Jr. She was also active in the Pictou County MS Support Association, and a member of Pictou United Church.

Marion is survived by daughter, Stacy, Dartmouth; son, Trevor (Maureen), Stellarton; grandchildren, Logan and Sydney; brothers, Allan (Joan), Woodburn; Phil (Geraldine), Calgary; Garff, U.S.A.; sisters, Shirl, New Hampshire, and Sandra, Maine; several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by infant brother, Ralph; sisters, Isabel and Dorothy.

Cremation has taken place.

Visitation will be held 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today in McLaren Funeral Home, Pictou.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Friday in Pictou United Church with Rev. Mary-Beth Moriarity officiating. Interment will be in Haliburton Cemetery.

Donations in her memory may be made to the Pictou County MS Support Association, c/o 410 Little Harbour Rd., New Glasgow, NS B2H 3T3. She will be sadly missed by family and friends.

 

DONOVAN, Mary Ruth

DONOVAN, Mary Ruth - 96, Pictou, passed away January 15, 2008, in Maritime Oddfellows Home, Pictou, where she resided for the past six years.

Born in South Melville, P.E.I., she was a daughter of the late Joseph and Jane (Brown) Cutcliffe. Ruth attended business college in Prince Edward Island and moved to Pictou in 1942.

She was well-known for her wonderful knitting and quilting, and for many years did volunteer knitting for the S.H.M. Hospital and Red Cross.

She is survived by her daughter, Jean (Keith) Slaunwhite, Halifax; grandchildren, Kathy (Vince) Williams, Ontario; Carla (Milton) Isaacs, Bedford; Brian (Carolyn) Slaunwhite, Kentville; and Karen Slaunwhite (Dave Gray), Ottawa; seven great-grandchildren and four great great-grandchildren.

She will also be sadly missed by her friend and neighbour of many years, Betty Knowles.

She was predeceased by her husband, Jack; son, Paul; daughter-in-law, Joan; sister, Bertha Calbeck; brothers, Gordon, Harold, and Ray Cutcliffe.

Visitation will be held 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today in McLaren Funeral Home, Pictou.

Funeral service will be in Pictou United Church at 3 p.m. on Friday with Rev. Mary-Beth Moriarity officiating. Burial to follow in Seaview Cemetery.

Donations may be made to Lung Association of Nova Scotia or a charity of choice if so desired.
