What is your name?

by Angie Burns-Burrell

Pictou - Greeting at Pictou United yesterday was Wilson Jones. Steward was David Steele. Lay Leader was Sarah MacCullum.

A short video was shown before service giving people insight into the United Church Council.

During the Moment for All, Rev. Moriarity asked the Sunday school children if they knew what their names meant. Rev. Moriarity told the Sunday School that during her travels in Africa and Namibia that when people introduced themselves they told their name and what it meant and that we are named by God at Baptism.

Hebrew Scripture was Genesis 32: 22-27, Responsive Psalm was Praise God and the Gospel Lesson was from John 21: 15-17, 19(b).

During Reflections, a video was shown telling us how our names are often a family history and tradition and give us our identity. When we claim our history, whatever it is, only we can answer the question “what is your name”. It talked about how we compare ourselves to others and what others say about us. When we are asked who we are and whose we are, we can answer that we are God’s people.

Next Sunday, Chicken Burger Lunch and Pictou United Annual Meeting.
