United Church Women led morning service

by Sharon Cheverie

Pictou- Greeters last Sunday were Wanda Smith and Millie Hoffe, steward was Bill Dodson.

Rev Mary-Beth Moriarity was away at the fall 2008 meeting of General Council Executive, so morning service was under the direction of United Church Women led by Gwen MacDonald who gave report on the Christmas Tea and Sale and Sentimental Journey.

Mission Moment given by Margaret Anne Dodson included the dedication of a Mission Service Shawl.

Lighting the Christ Candle and reading the Gathering Litany was Elsie MacDonald. Litany of Confession was read by Alison Yoshioka.

Time with the children was shared by Ruth MacKay; she spoke of a penny and its value years ago when you could go to the store and purchase penny candy compared to what a penny can buy today. She had the children gather pennies from the congregation to see how many they could collect. They would add them up and decided what they would purchase with them.

Epistle Reading 1 Thessalonians: 1-10 was read by Bonnie McTague and the Gospel Reading John 6:1-14 was read by Doris Young.

Reflections given by Margaret Anne Dodson shared the story of her recent trip to China and her visit with our partners in the Amity Foundation.

June Cameron led the We Are Sent Forth Blessing.
